Penis pumps, or vacuum erection devices pre-date ever popular tablets such as Viagra, they have been around for such a long time. I rarely meet a man who doesn’t reference the Austin Powers movie ‘International Man of Mystery’ when I start to talk about penis pumps. The words ‘penis pump’ sends eyebrows through the roof and heads begin to shake, but I assure you, when you master the penis pump, it really is a simple and effective device. Read on to learn about the world of penis pumps!

Now, back to the Austin Powers movie, the pump featured looks alarmingly like a dangerous contraption with a detonator attached, we won’t be encouraging you to use any such device!

Danger Power’s famous penis enlarger:

Vacuum erection devices, VED’s, or more fondly referred to as penis pumps are used for various reasons. VED’s are a very straight forward device to achieve an erection. The penis is placed in a cylindrical tube sealed at the base of the penis to enable suction, the pressure in the cylinder is reduced and blood is drawn into the corpora cavernosa (spongy tubes of the penis) leading to engorgement.  For men who can achieve partial erections, the pump can be used to boost the erection and then a constriction ring used to maintain the erection. With practice and perseverance, a flaccid penis can be pumped to workable, with a constriction ring left on.

Men naturally have multiple erections every night when they are sleeping, so if erectile dysfunction is so significant that there are no erections, penile health will be compromised. To maintain penile health, prevent structural damage, scar tissue developing and subsequent loss of length and girth, getting regular erections is crucial.

Now sure, some men are motivated to use tablets (if they work), or penile injections on a regular basis to achieve erections, but, sexual activity should be fun, it’s important to separate the ‘erections for rehabilitation’ from the ‘erections for fun’. This is where the pump often comes in, the pump is like a gym for the penis. If you broke your arm, and your arm was in a cast, when it’s out, it needs exercising, it is exactly the same with the penis.

Men who don’t achieve regular erections will often use the pump multiple times a week to maintain penile health and increase effectiveness of interventions like tablets and injections.

First time pump users often come to accept them as a ‘rehab device’, using it on a regular basis because they ‘have’ to but will use another form of treatment such as tablets or injections to achieve erections for fun. Over time, as men adapt to their pump, I have had many patients who really master the pump and achieve good enough erections for sexual activity, including penetration and end up extremely satisfied with it.

“That pump is bloody awesome, its way better than anything you buy from an adult shop, a serious bit of kit that is now part of my life, that thing works a treat, and the rings keep it up. I had a comfortable ring on, but it wouldn’t stay, I put one of the stronger rings and it stays there so I can use the thing!”

PUMP TIPS AND TRICKS

SLOW AND STEADY

Pumping needs to be in a ‘slow and steady’ motion, not like you are shaking a cocktail mix!

Try and take a breather between pumps, taking your time will produce a better end result.

TIGHT SEAL

You need to make sure the seal of the pump / base of the pump is firm against your body to create a good seal. If you are using a pump with different ring sizes, choose one which is tight but not uncomfortable. If your pump comes with a ‘one size fits all’ seal, you will need to add a universal seal.

AIM FOR ENLARGED

Pump until the penis is engorged, roughly 80% of what you would expect of a naturally erect penis, leave the pump up for a few minutes and then let it down and repeat the process. If you are using it to maintain the erection for fun, pump until engorged then take the pump off and leave the constriction ring on.

PUMP LOCATIONS

Using the pump in the shower for ‘rehab’ is a great and less messy place to use it. The warm water can help with natural engorgement, so men feel there is ‘more life’ down below before they begin pumping. Although people do of course use it, well, everywhere. One gentleman reports he lays by the pool outside (yes, he has high fences), another pumps and does his chores and then of course some men find it quite pleasurable and self-stimulate in between pumping sessions or play with a partner.

ALL THAT HAIR

Trim the pubic hair so the pump doesn’t catch on the hair.

THE SCROTUM

Pull the skin of the scrotum down out of the way so that it doesn’t pinch and get sucked up into the pump. Testicles will only get sucked up in a flexible seal like a cheaper adult store pump.

LUBE

Lubricants differ and it is important to find one which works for you. Generally speaking, thicker lubricants achieve a better seal. Sticky lubes are predominantly made with glycerine, our body reacts to it like sugar, and it becomes sticky quite quickly, if you do not like the feel of ‘sticky’ then pick a lubricant without glycerine on the ingredient list!

Really though any water-based lubricant is fine and for most people a cheap one from the pharmacy or supermarket is adequate. ‘lifeStyles Silky Smooth’ is a good well priced lubricant which is widely available. ‘Sylk Natural lubricant’ is also inexpensive and widely available, it does not go ‘sticky’ and is good for skin sensitivity.

‘Sliquid Satin’ lubricant is great for use with pumps as it is nice and thick. As a personal lubricant for use with a partner, especially those with discomfort with intercourse or sensitive skin should try ‘uberlube’. Uberlube also has a pump top, so you have one hand free to keep busy!

KEEPING IT UP

If you are using a pump where the seal on the base does not double up as a constriction ring, the easiest thing to do is to either roll a constriction ring onto the pump before you begin pumping – you can then roll the ring down onto the base of your penis when it is engorged.

Lasso style rings are easy to put on when using a pump but sometimes aren’t as ‘fun’. If you are going to use a constriction ring, why not make it more pleasurable and go for a ribbed or vibrating ring.

Pumps where the seal doubles up as a constriction ring are great and simple, they are also very firm, so they do a good job at maintaining the erection.

Don’t forget to read our blog about pump choices.

The pump is magic, my wife is happy as it’s a bigger penis than she had before! The trick is knowing when to stop pumping. It just gets bigger and bigger in the tube and you have to master when its big enough. If you stop pumping too soon, you can’t maintain the erection, if you pump too much, it gets sore. It takes practice to get it just right for sex’. Bill age 74
